room makeover: senior year edition

With a new year of school comes a new home to live in. For senior year I decided to go a little more upscale—choosing to live with roommates in an apartment complex owned by our school. It’s a lot more space, and a much more grown-up feel than the last place I lived. However, it is also incredibly modern and gray. I had to find many different ways to liven it up, and I wanted to share it on here in case anybody needed a little inspiration. This is specifically for our bedroom, which I like to spend a lot of my time at home in. We were lucky enough to have two twin beds to squeeze together into a king, which is a dream come true (although not as comfortable as your average king mattress due to the weird middle space).

For my bedroom, I wanted to focus on two stand out aspects for it: A unique bedspread and a large wall of eclectic pictures. I chose to lay out each picture on my bed first, and then assemble them into the design I wanted for the wall. The goal was that it would look like I took them all off my bed at the same time and stamped them right on the wall. Below you’ll see the different pictures and frames I was working with, and get a glimpse into what type of art I love!

I recorded myself in a time-lapse as I put together the wall, mainly because I thought it would look fun and wanted to share it! It can also help you see how I went about everything, in case you were curious! I used velcro Command Strips to keep the pictures up, but I would recommend nails if you don’t have to worry about a charge at the end of the year.

The laurel wreath I handmade by buying fake plants from Michaels and using wire to attach them to metal wreath frames. You have to cut the frames and it takes a little persuasion to get the wreaths to attach the way you want them, but it is the most simple task and gives a unique touch to what is on your wall. You can add extra plants or flowers to it and make it stand out a bit more too—I feel like it would have been so cute with little fake bluebells

My plant child was the perfect addition to the room, and I love the pop of green it adds. I cannot wait until it blooms and brings spring-time to my room!

And here is the finished project! I picked up some fuzzy, orange pillows at Marshalls, along with the yellow Sleep In pillow. I love that I can easily replace the orange pillows with baby blue ones and the bed will be perfect for spring and summer. The matching yellow throw is from Amazon and so comfortable that I’m constantly wrapping it around myself wherever I go in the flat. I took another trip to Marshalls and completed the corner next to Noah with a metal basket that holds my heating pad and crochet materials. I still wish I could paint the wall with the pictures though because the white is overkill in this room. However, I am constantly adding little elements to the room and maybe if I expand the picture wall it might make it better.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the room and what you think I should add to it?
